This is an opportunity to explore an area which is often - and wrongly - neglected by English language guidebooks, but is popular with Parisians seeking a change of pace. Sample Tour : Glories of the Touraine. We meet you at your hotel, from where we travel to the beautiful town of Loches, with its medieval walls, palace, and donjon. Loches has a close association with many of the kings of France and England, as well as Joan of Arc. We will also "meet" the beautiful Agnes Sorel, and some recently rediscovered Caravaggio paintings. For lunch we eat at a very popular and stylish restaurant in the centre of Loches. After lunch we travel through rolling countryside via prehistoric monuments and World War 2 memorials, to the chateau of Chenonceau, home of renaissance queens, and one of the most beautiful chateaux in France. On the way back to your hotel we stop for a wine tasting at a local winery. The next day we travel through Balzac's beloved Touraine to the chateau of Azay le Rideau, a fairytale chateau surrounded by a moat. After visiting the chateau and its gardens we have lunch at a restaurant next to the chateau, just perfect for some people watching After lunch we visit the magnificent and world famous parterre gardens of Villandry, before travelling back to your accommodation via a wine cave in Vouvray where world class still and sparkling wines are produced. Here we will tour the caves before a private tasting. The cost of this tour is €1490 for two people starting in either Tours or Amboise. The price includes all entry fees and lunch on both days. Because Célestine only has a small trunk we are unable to carry large amounts of luggage, so if you are travelling by train through the Loire valley with all your luggage it would be advisable to either travel down the day before or stay in Tours, where there are a number of hotels within walking distance of the station. |
