Wine and Food Tours
The Loire Valley is home to more than just chateaux. This tour is designed to introduce you to one of the most famous chateau in France and also show you a range of the wines produced in the central Loire region, known as the Touraine. Most of the wineries in this region are quite small and family run, with wines as individual as the people who make them. Because of the wine labelling system in France all these wines are produced in the traditional methods, but long experience and a passion for innovation means that no two wines or vintages are identical.
To get into the right mood we start the day at a classic Loire Valley Chateau. Chenonceau is an iconic building with links to the most powerful women of the French renaissance, and is a "must see" on most people's list. After lunch in the town of Montrichard, we visit the famous mushroom caves of Bourré for a guided underground tour. We then visit two wineries, one which makes a variety of wines, both red and white, and the other a Vouvray cave which makes still and sparkling wines. At both wineries the tours are led by the winemaker or their assistant, and finish with a tasting
.
In between visits we will be driving past a number of lovely chateaux, through extensive vineyards and picturesque villages. The landscape is renowned for its gentle beauty and charm, punctuated by houses and barns built of the local creamy limestone, many of them dating from medieval or renaissance times.
The cost of this tour is €695 for two people.
